Hello June!
June marks the beginning of Summer and, here in St. Kitts, it means one thing …. The annual music festival! The St. Kitts Music Festival began in 1996 as a platform to highlight Kittitian talent and to introduce local performers to visiting artists, promoters, and tourists. What first started with the idea of a Jazz Festival has evolved into three nights of world-class entertainment with dedicated theme nights of Soca/Calypso, Reggae and R&B.
Over the years some of the world’s greatest entertainers have performed in St. Kitts, reflecting all genres. The impressive roster during the past two decades has included Lionel Richie, K Michelle, Chris Browne, Fantasia, Goo Goo Dolls, Kenny Rogers, V Boozeman, Tyrese Gibson, Dionne Warrick, Wyclef Jean, Michael Bolton, Hugh Masekala, Brian McKnight, Shaggy, 50 cent, DMX, Dennis Edwards & The Temptations Review, Chaka Khan, , Eve, Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, Culture, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Cece Winans, Freddie McGregor, Dru Hill, Yolanda Adams, KC & Jo Jo, Dennis Browne, Bobby Caldwell, Kool & The Gang, O’Jays, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson, Joe, Percy Sledge, The Manhattans, Morgan Heritage, Mighty Arrow, Freddie Jackson, Sparrow, Destra, Buju Banton, Nas, Machel Montano & Xtatik, Rupee, Stalin, David Rudder, Doug E. Fresh, Ludacris, T.O.K., John Holt, T.I., Boys ll Men, Atlantic Starr, and Barrington Levy, Lady Saw, Sean Paul, Ne-Yo, and Big Boi of Outkast and so many more.
This year’s Festival will be held from June 22nd through June 24th and will feature local, regional, and internationally renowned performers including Chronixx, Koffee, Govana, Skillibeng, Air Supply, Burner Boy, Valiant, Patrice Roberts, Skinny Fabulous, Byron Messiah, and Grand Masters Band.
But the festival is more than music. It is part of a complete island experience, bringing Kittitians together with visitors to explore the rainforest, discover the pristine marine underworld of the stunning beaches that mark the landscape, engage in the finest Caribbean cuisine, all night parties, and soak up the pleasures of life in a tropical paradise.
June may be the beginning of the “low season” here in the Caribbean, but on St. Kitts, things are just starting to heat up!
